January / Deep freeze in the US: Snow and ice covers a harbour light on Lake Michigan in Chicago on January 30. May / Cyclone in Mozambique: An aerial shot captures the destruction caused by Cyclone Kenneth when it struck Ibo island north of Pemba city in Mozambique on May 1, causing more than 40 deaths. It arrived just six weeks after Cyclone Idai, which along with subsequent flooding is believed to have killed more than 1,000 people across Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. June / Cyclone in India: A fisherman is guided to hospital after he was injured while moving a boat to safety along the Arabian sea coast as Cyclone Vayu approached Veraval, India on June 13. Nearly 300,000 people were displaced from coastal areas in Gujarat, India in preparation for the approaching storm, according to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre. July / Global heatwave: People enjoy the sun and the fountains of the Trocadero gardens in Paris on July 25, when a new all-time high temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius hit the French capital.
